Usually blue kryptonite has no effect on Kryptonians, but the particular batch that Supergirl has been exposed to had been altered by her clone, the dangerous villain Galatea.
Galatea had hoped that the Kryptonite would mutate or disfigure the beautiful super-heroine, but instead it made Supergirl grow into a powerful mega-giantess.
While she waited for her cousin and his friends in the Justice League to figure out a way to reverse the changes, Supergirl decided to pass the time tormenting Galatea by pretending to eat her.
